Great art will take you on an emotional ride. It has an abstract emotional depth underneath that supports the realism. I’ll try to bring you to a place where you can experience visual art by first having you listen to music, then see it visually in different painting styles from abstract (tonal) towards more realism.
Sadness: First, listen to this song and try to feel the depth of what she’s feeling (long intro, song starts at 1 min 15 seconds): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQHsXMglC9A
Now try to hear that song while looking through these paintings in order. Stop at each image and really look and “feel” the image:
Do you see the void of color and feel the sadness in it?
Joy: Now listen to this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YykjpeuMNEk&list=PLRNGf69jPtYLyoCALT1l1_5H6O2AaqkAH
and hear that song while viewing these:
Do you see and feel the up-beat impact of the color?
Before painting or viewing art, ask yourself, “What do I feel when I see this?“. Truth is, that feeling is as real as the image you see. Together, they are the experience.
It’ll take a lifetime to fully express the powerful feeling of nature, but the vision is already there waiting patiently for me to catch up.
